Senate approves Buhari’s request for N10bn to Kogi — 2 days to gov’ship election
The Senate has approved the payment of a N10 billion loan to Kogi State despite request by opposition lawamakers to delay it until after governorship election set for November 16.
Recall that the President in October requested the house’s greenlight to release the fund to enable the state government settle local debts incurred for projects it carried out on behalf of the Federal Government.
The application however met stiff resistance from opposition lawmakers who raised concerns about its timing.
Senator Enyinaya Abaribe, leader of the house’s minority had said the approval of the loan should be deferred until next week after the upcoming election.
But the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan overuled the argument saying approval for the loan was long overdue. Lawan added that the executive had put in request since the tenure of the 8th assembly.
