Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for directing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop providing foreign exchange to food importers.
According to the governor, this will help ensure that Nigeria is a nation that can feed itself.

Being the ‘Food Basket of the Nation’, he said Benue will greatly benefit from this, as will farmers across the country, since agricultural returns would also increase.
President Buhari disclosed the directive when he hosted All Progressives Congress (APC) governors to Eid-el-Kabir lunch at his country home in Daura, Katsina state on Tuesday.
He said the foreign reserve will be conserved and utilized strictly for diversification of the economy, and not for encouraging more dependence on foreign food import bills.
“Don’t give a cent to anybody to import food into the country,” he said.
