APC, Kalu, Okorocha, Ambode, BMO, others congratulate Buhari
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed the judgement of the 2019 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal dismissing in its entirety the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, reads: “With today’s legal affirmation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s election victory, the APC congratulates the President; the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN, all members of our great party and, indeed, all well meaning Nigerians on this landmark judgment.
“The APC congratulates the Judiciary for refusing to succumb to the opposition party’s subterfuge. We note the painstaking efforts and thoroughness of the Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in arriving at their decision. Today’s judgement, no doubt, would go down in the annals of our nation as the longest and detailed, spanning almost 10 hours.
“The Judgement by the five-member validates the decision of most Nigerians to do away with the past as expressed in their overwhelming votes in the 2019 elections.
“The PDP and Atiku’s petition was largely hinged on the educational qualification of President Muhammadu Buhari and tales of an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) server and allegations of electronic transmission of election results. This was rightly dismissed by the Tribunal for lacking in merit.
“From the outset, our party was not perturbed over the PDP and Atiku’s petition, which will go down in Nigeria’s history as the most frivolous in the history of Election Petition. Infact our position has now been justified that the PDP and Atiku’s petition was a complete waste of time. In their puerile efforts, they insisted on taking the country on a circus and wild goose chase.
“Going forward, APC’s victory at the presidential polls and the election tribunal represents our collective desire as a people to remain focus on the progressive growth and development of our country’s economy, fight against corruption, and providing security.
“Consequently, we have taken a bold step by rescuing our nation from the satanic era of PDP, when our collective interests were being corruptly traded among a few pillagers.
“We note, unfortunately, the continuous efforts being made by the unpatriotic elements in PDP, having held our country down for nearly two decades, to truncate our movement towards greatness. We, however, remain resolute in this journey being ably led by President Muhammadu Buhari. The APC administration would lead this country to the fulfillment of its destiny”.
Former Abia State Governor and Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr. Orji Kalu, described the victory of as good for Nigeria’s democracy.
He noted that the verdict of the tribunal is a re-affirmation of the popularity of the President among the people, adding that the 2019 presidential election, provided another opportunity for Nigerians to compensate Buhari for his goodworks.
Acknowledging the role of the judiciary in sustaining Nigeria’s growing democracy, Kalu, advised politicians to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship in their pursuits for the sake of nation building.
While commending the panel for the landmark judgement, the Senator expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their firm confidence in President Buhari and his team.
In a statement personally signed by Kalu on Wednesday , he stressed that the re-affirmation of President Buhari’s victory is a testament to the unprecedented achievements of the current administration.
He said, ” I join other Nigerians in celebrating the verdict of the tribunal.
“President Buhari’s pedigree and goodwill will always speak for him.
” The President as a strong advocate of democracy, provided a level playing ground for candidates across political parties in the 2019 general election.
” President Buhari’s leadership style is highly commendable.
“With the judgement of the tribunal, the opposition and other stakeholders should join hands with the President in his determined efforts to reposition Nigeria.
The former Governor, who applauded the level of maturity displayed by President Buhari before, during and after the poll, charged the political class to embrace the tenets of democracy in their endeavours, noting that the unity of Nigeria remains non- negotiable.
Kalu while congratulating Buhari, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stakeholders and members of the APC, urged Nigerians to be calm, steadfast and law-abiding.
The Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha, also congratulated Buhari.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha said that the president’s victory is for all ”lovers of democracy in and outside the country as it signifies a light at the end of the tunnel for Nigeria’s democracy.”
Okorocha stated that with the victory, the president would be more encouraged to continue to work for the unity, progress and peace of the nation, without the distractions of the case.
He commended the tribunal members for “doing a good job and making the nation proud.”
The senator also commended Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for “giving a good account of himself and for his contributions to the nation’s democracy.”
Former Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, also congratulated Buhari.
Ambode, in a statement by his media aide, Habib Aruna, said the ruling by the tribunal was a validation of the second term mandate of the people given to President Buhari to continue the strides of development and to take Nigeria to the next level.
“I join millions of Nigerians, the leadership of our great party and all members of our party across the nation to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on this well-deserved victory at the Tribunal. This victory is a validation of the confidence in the President’s re-election and a testament to the fact that the people are happy with the progress made by his administration and are keen to see four more years of progressive governance,” he said.
He urged all supporters of the party and Nigerians in general to rally round President Buhari in his quest to return Nigeria to the path of greatness and respectability.
The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) also commended members of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal for dismissing the petition against the election of Buhari.
The BMO in a statement by its Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, in Abuja on Wednesday, said: “this is proof that the justices are men of honour”.
The organisation added that it was expecting nothing less than the outright dismissal of the petition like the panel members did.
“It was glaring to everyone that the petition challenging the overwhelming electoral victory of President Muhammadu Buhari was frivolous.
“The Tribunal has now further shown how ridiculous the electoral challenge was and made it clear that the President was duly qualified to contest in the Feb.23, election in the first place, on the basis of educational qualification and professional attainment.”
The Justices, they said were emphatic in brushing aside claims by the petitioners that results were transmitted through electronic means to a server at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).”
The organisation urged opposition elements who claimed to be awaiting the Tribunal verdict before recognising the President to keep their promise.
BMO also solicited the support of Nigerians for the success of President Buhari’s second term in office and assured them that they would not be disappointed.
As reactions continue across the country over the victory of Buhari, his home town of Daura in Katsina State broke into wild jubilation on the judgement.
A lot of activities were lined up by the residents of the ancient town to celebrate the victory.
Highlights of the activities conducted were car racing, motorcycle speed completion and singing and dancing from local entertainers within the eleven existing electoral wards of the area.
Alhaji Usman Ado, the APC zonal vice chairman in charge of Daura zone, has described the judgment as triumph for democracy and the rule of law.
He said the victory would enable the party to consolidate on the earlier gains so far recorded as well as improve tremendously on delivery of dividends of democracy.
Alhaji Abdulmanaf Muhammad, the northwest organising secretary of the ruling party expressed his gratefulness to God for the victory.
Also in Jalingo, the Coordinator, Buhari Support Organization in Taraba said that Buhari’s victory was the victory for development of the country.
“The victory of Buhari is exciting news for majority of Nigerians who want the continuation of good governance for a better tomorrow.
In Damaturu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that the court verdict granting victory to Buhari against Atiku Abubakar was a reflection of the people’s mandate in the 2019 presidential election.
Alhaji Abubakar Bakabe, APC state secretary said ‘’We are happy that PDP and its candidate have duly exercised their rights by going to court which is the most civilised way of contesting election results/
‘’As a nation, we must commend this administration for promoting rule of law, fair play, non interference and the objectivity of the judiciary.
”As obtained in developed democracies, we should now put the election behind us, cooperate with government and collectively contribute to national development,” the party said.
Musa Abubakar, a Damaturu resident described the judgment as historic “giving the petitioners, respondents and the judiciary their rights and freedom as enshrined in the constitution.”
