Abba Kyari Moves to Curtail Osinbajo’s Relevance
Indications have emerged that the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, is making moves to contain the relevance and powers of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, in the Presidential Villa.
To achieve this aim, The Politico has exclusively learnt that a proposal has now been forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari seeking his approval for the dispersal of most of the presidential advisers and aides in the Vice President’s Office outside the Presidential Villa.
Informed presidential sources disclose that this is the next in the series of actions and steps designed by the alleged cabal in the Presidency to curtail the activities of the Vice President and pluck his feathers ahead of 2023 so as to sabotage the emergence of a credible presidential candidate from the Southwest.
A source who cited the proposal being pushed by Kyari disclosed that if the President consents, all the aides and advisers holding different portfolios in the Office of the Vice President would then be posted to relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government and relocated out of Aso Rock.
This is coming just a day after the replacement of the Economic Management Team headed by the Vice President with an Economic Advisory Council which would then report directly to the President.
In an apparent bid to frustrate the perception of power rotating to the south/ or southwest in 2023, the cabal in the Presidency has been taking decisive steps to neutralize the VP, seen as one of the most influential elements of the Buhari administration from the south.
While the plan is currently targeting the VP, sources say its reach goes beyond the Law Professor- turned politician to also include an APC national leader from the southwest.
In the first set of actions by the cabal, the design is to cut the VP off any significant engagements with the Nigerian people.
Another significant action in the plan is the creation of a new Ministry of Social Development, Humanitarian Affairs & Disaster Management. The intent here according to informed sources is to take away the Social Investment Programmes(SIP) believed to be the most popular and acclaimed program of the Buhari administration from the VP.
Authoritative sources say hints had been going round that Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari was in collaboration with Babagana Kingibe, Governors Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State, Dr John Fayemi of Ekiti & Senator Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun to take over power from Buhari in 2023. Although it is not clear who might be the direct beneficiary, most insiders are naming Kingibe as the preferred choice of the cabal.
To achieve this scheme, the team has concluded that it was necessary to pull down the rising profile of the VP and drive a wedge between him & the President as quickly as possible. This became especially urgent as the South West was being discussed as the zone to produce the next President after Buhari.
With the Economic Management Team dissolved and the Social Investment Programmes consigned to a Ministry, it is clear that that the cabal has somehow confused and blindsided the President to render his VP redundant.
What happens in the coming days will show how successful or not the controversially powerful cabal really is, as it steps up on its 2023 anti-southwest mission.
